THE ROUTE
Knysna Portland Camino
HOW OUR CAMINO WORKS
Unlike traditional Caminos where pilgrims carry their bags and sleep in mountain hostels, the Knysna Portland Manor Camino is designed to be comfortable, supported, and accessible.
ARRIVAL DAY – SUNDAY
Guests arrive at Portland Manor at leisure between 12:00 and 14:00 and settle into the tranquil surroundings, starting with a manor house tour followed by a short distance walk through our farm, later then having dinner and sharing a lot of history.
WALKING DAY 1 - MONDAY
After breakfast and packed lunches, transfer to the start of the trail for a scenic day of walking. Return to Portland Manor in the afternoon to relax before a group dinner.
WALKING DAY 2 - TUESDAY
A full day of walking through forest and landscape, followed by a relaxed afternoon and evening of shared stories and dinner.
WALKING DAY 3 - WEDNESDAY
The final day of walk is Circles in the forest and history of Dalene Matthee, before returning to Portland Manor for a farewell dinner in the Historic Manor House.
DEPARTURE DAY - THURSDAY
After a final leisurely breakfast, guests have time to pack, reflect, and enjoy a last moment of stillness at Portland Manor. With hearts full and spirits renewed, departures take place at a relaxed pace — carrying memories, connections, and the quiet magic of the days shared.
TRAIL HIGHLIGHTS
As you wander through the enchanted Knysna Forest, the trail weaves beneath ancient yellowwoods that stretch like guardians into the misty sky. The ground is carpeted in velvet moss and feathery ferns, while shafts of golden light filter through the canopy, dancing on crystal-clear streams that whisper their way across the path.
The forest hums with quiet life, flashes of emerald as a Knysna turaco glides past, the distant rustle of unseen creatures, and the faint echo of the legendary elephants who once moved like shadows through the trees. In hidden clearings, wildflowers bloom like forest secrets, and glimpses of distant mountains and the timeless Portland Camino remind you that this is no ordinary walk, it’s a passage into wonder.
